Shenyang Institute of Engineering (SIE) is a comprehensive institution of higher education under the administration of the Liaoning provincial government. SIE is a joint collaboration by the Liaoning Provincial Government and the State Power Investment Corporation, and it is the only university in the Liaoning province that focuses on Energy Sources and Electrical Powers as its main areas of study.
So far, SIE has trained over 100,000 industry-oriented talents in the field of Energy Sources and Electrical Powers for the country. The initial employment rates of new graduates are consistently high, ranking amongst the top across the province for nine consecutive years.
SIE offers a wide variety of disciplines, including Engineering, Economics, Management, and Law. It operates at two campuses: the main campus, and the Science Park. The university covers an area of 826,621 square meters, including 450,000 square meters of building space. SIE offers 33 undergraduate programs, amongst those of which 3 are unique within the province, and 9 are offered by only 5 or fewer universities in all of Liaoning. The university has been approved as a Master's degree-granting institution and currently holds three professional Master's degree authorization points. Currently, SIE has over 12,000 full-time students, including 403 Master’s degree candidates. The university employs 983 faculty members, including 716 full-time teachers, with senior titles accounting for 49.3% of them. Amongst the faculty members, there are five experts who have received special government allowances from the State Council, one instructor with the honor of the New Century Outstanding Talents of the Ministry of Education award, and 120 instructors who were granted the Excellent Teachers Award at both the National and Provincial level.
SIE has three national-level professional construction sites, 98 national and provincial-level scientific research platforms, and one program that has been accredited by the China Engineering Education Accreditation Association (CEEAA). In the past five years, it has undertaken 111 provincial-level teaching reform projects, of which 14 have won undergraduate teaching achievement awards. SIE students have won more than 2,400 national and provincial awards in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions.
The university gathers strength to build strategic research capability. In the past five years, it has been granted 25 national-level research projects and 817 provincial-level projects. The transformation rate of research of the school has ranked amongst the top in provincial universities for many consecutive years. In the 2018 China International Solar Decathlon Competition, SIE—contending as the only finalist team in Northeast China, competed with 22 other teams of well-known schools, and won two individual first place prizes.
The university has a National University Science Park, which has nurtured over 200 technology companies. It has transformed over 50 patented technologies and facilitated the promotion and application of more than 40 research achievements, resulting in over billions of yuan in economic benefits.
SIE actively promotes international exchange and cooperation. It has established friendly and cooperative relationships with more than 40 universities in 12 countries and regions. SIE has started the first China-Foreign joint educational project since 1998. Its international cooperation team has accumulated profound experience in collaborating with foreign institutions.
Looking forward, SIE will make continuous efforts to build itself into a domestic, first-class, comprehensive university with distinctive regional characteristics.
